In the digital camera space there often come times when companies come up with some really off the wall ideas that make no real practical sense, Sony might just be going through such a moment right now if a new report proves true.

Sony according to a new insider leak is working on bringing 3G mobile broadband to their digital cameras. A prototype is said to have already been created with a 3G module installed. The source say’s the main reason for the feature is wireless uploading of captured images.Wireless uploading is currently available but it uses easy to obtain but not as fast Wi-Fi connections. There is actually the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-G3 Wi-Fi enabled camera available right now from Sony. However that’s not even the only product that allows camera to upload wirelessly, there are Eye-Fi memory cards now which are basically Wi-Fi enabled memory cards.
The idea of utilizing 3G speeds to do uploading on the go is a cool but it’s just not as practical as using Wi-Fi at the moment. Maybe if the feature for cameras was launched at a date when 3G data pricing was cheaper it would be a more practical feature to include with a camera.
