Are you in the market for a new digital camera? If you aren’t happy with the high end Nikon or Canon cameras, and are longing for more resolution then the new Hasselblad might just hit the spot. The H4D-200MS costs around £28,000 and uses a sensor with 50 megapixels resolution, but combines six shots into one with Hasselblads multishot technology.
It won’t be ideal for moving objects due to the technology, but for static photos the resolution is meant to be astonishing.Hasselblad announced the camera last year and they initially said that they would be releasing it in Q1 of 2011.
The multishot technology is fascinating as it works with a piezoelectric motor to move the camera’s image sensor a small amount before taking each photo. The multishot modes offset each frame by a half or a full pixel width, a method to compensate for the fact that each sensor pixel will capture only blue, red or green light. It takes about 20 seconds for a four shot mode, and 30 seconds for a six shot mode. A tripod would be needed for clear images.
Hasselblad are allowing owners of the previous H4D-50MS to return their camera for an upgrade which will cost 7,000 euros. Each of the shots are taken at 6132×8176 pixel resolution and when the six shots are combined into one, the raw photo is about 600mb in size. This is why they offer a hard drive connection on the side of the unit. ISO between 50 and 800 is supported.
The camera also uses a technology called ‘True Focus’ – the camera will use sensors in the H4D camera to measure the change of movement and adjust the autofocus setting in real time.
