Fujifilm Corp., of Japan, has filed suit against the Eastman Kodak company, of the U.S., for patent infringement. Previously the two companies had been engaging in talks in regard to four patents related to digital cameras that Fujifilm owns, but those talks proved fruitless and Fujifilm has now filed an official law suit against Kodak in Manhattan (New York City), New York.
What does Fujifilm want from Kodak? According to Business Week the suit filed by Fuijilm demands damages be paid to them and a jury trial be had. Also according to Business Week the Kodak EasyShare C340 and EasyShare M530 digital cameras are two digital cameras named in the suit. At this time neither Fujifilm nor Kodak have released an official statement for the press regarding the new law suit.
The Kodak EasyShare C340 and M530 cameras are both low-end affordable point-and-shoot cameras, and the C340 isn’t even in production any longer. The Kodak EasyShare M530 is the most recent of the two and it’s being sold now by Kodak themselves on store.kodak.com for as low as $79.95.
Fujifilm Corp. is the company behind the FUJIFILM FinePix brand of digital cameras. The company has been around for more than 100 years, just as the Eastman Kodak company has as well. Both companies have bundles, and more bundles, of patents and both have never been afraid to go to court if they felt theirs were being infringed upon. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with this particular suit, right now it’s too hard to say much of anything until more about the suit is made public.
